The “@KCUA presents: Showcasing You!” project features up-and-coming young artists in Japan. The third artist to be showcased is ShiShi Yamazaki, whose solo exhibition Video Girl Yamazaki was held at @KCUA in the framework of this project. Yamazaki began creating her signature hand-drawn watercolor-style rotoscope animations while enrolled in the Department of Design at Tokyo University of the Arts. Her luscious animations, in which she herself makes appearances, have been shown in international animation festivals and other events in Europe, the US, and Asia. They have also been featured as promotional material for world-class fashion and cosmetics brands such as Prada and Shiseido. Video Girl Yamazaki not only showed the work she has made over the years, but also marked the premiere of her newest work at that point. The exhibition also included a recreation of part of her first solo exhibition held in Tokyo the previous year, as well as an exclusive presentation of the live-action footage on which her animations are based.
