KCUA EXHIBITIONS
Kyoto City University of Arts Faculty Exhibition 1970’s
In March 1970, KCUA presented a plan for the reformation of the Faculty of Fine Arts, which began with the fundamental issue of what exactly a university is, calling the university’s principles into question. This exhibition featured the works made by students and instructors over the course of the decade that followed the announcement of this plan. These works were produced in a brand-new environment that allowed students to come into contact with various fields of artistic expression, through such reformations as the introduction of a practical curriculum encouraging cross-departmental projects that formed the basis of the present general practical course. The works also showed the social background of the 1970s, which is characterized by rapid growth, the differentiation between the self and the other, and a trend toward personal consumption.
