Special Exhibitions are exhibitions curated by the @KCUA curators. Functioning as a satellite institution and transmission base of the art university, @KCUA is a place to publicise processes of ‘thinking’ and of ‘creating’ artworks. We develop pioneering and experimental programs that can be carried out precisely because we are part of the university, where art is nurtured. We are working on a wide variety of projects, including supporting young artists with a focus on graduates from the undergraduate and master’s degree studies at Kyoto City University of Arts, creating opportunities to come into contact with creative practices of internationally renowned artists, and highly specialized projects rooted in research, as well as programs for the university campus relocation planned in 2023.
Open Call Exhibitions are exhibitions selected through screening by the @KCUA management committee from an open call targeted at alumni, current students, and faculty members of Kyoto City University of Arts. Highly experimental projects, ambitious projects by young artists, and something alike are given priority. (Open Call to be held in September for the program of the following year.)
